Session Title: Community Building Circle

Session Overview:

This interactive peer learning session will introduce participants to the practice of Community

Building Circles — a foundational restorative practice used to strengthen relationships, deepen

trust, support collaborative problem-solving, and create more inclusive and participatory group

cultures.

Rather than focusing primarily on theory or presentation, this session is designed as an

experiential learning opportunity. Participants will have the chance to directly engage in a

facilitated Circle process and reflect together on what makes the experience distinct from more

traditional meeting formats.

Because many participants may be new to restorative practices and Circle process, the session will prioritize creating a welcoming, low-pressure environment grounded in curiosity, reflection and authentic conversation.

Priya Parker is the founder of Thrive Labs. She has helped plan and facilitate a wide variety of social and professional gatherings both large and small.. Her book,

The Art of Gathering, offers a thoughtful starting point for conversations about how to design gatherings that maximize connection, engagement, and productivity. MJ Pattison,will introduce some of Parker’s ideas and lead a discussion of the book and its relevance for our work and communities.
